Day 67: Today we are visiting Te Apiti Wind Farm before doing a hike in Manawatu Gorge – just more activities during our 365 Days: 365 Activities in New Zealand!

About this video:

It’s Day 67 on New Zealand’s Biggest Gap Year where we’re doing 365 Days: 365 Activities in New Zealand and today we are first of all, visiting the Te Apiti Wind Farm. We drive up to Te Apiti Wind Farm near Palmerston North to see giant wind turbines at work. The Te Apiti Wind Farm is a free activity to do near Palmerston North.

After that, we drive back down the hill to Manawatu Gorge. Manawatu Gorge has a number of walks in the area and we opt for Tawa Loop Track in the Manawatu Gorge.

The forest of the Manawatu Gorge is simply stunning with ancient forests, flowing rivers and Maori sculptures along the way. There are loads of information panels along the Tawa Loop Track of the Manawatu Gorge so you can learn more about New Zealand native forests as you hike.

After an amazing hike in the Manawatu Gorge, we hit the road for our final destination tonight, Makoura Lodge.

So what do you think of the Te Apiti Wind Farm and Manawatu Gorge? Are the Te Apiti Wind Farm and Manawatu Gorge places you would stop by on a trip in New Zealand?

The U.S. has a problem with racism. That is, it had a problem with racism now that Starbucks has given baristas at 12,000 locations across the country the choice of scribbling ‘Race Together’ on customers’ cups so they can ‘engage’ customers on race relations.

What better way to solve racism than through mass consumerism. CEO Howard Schultz said the campaign wasn’t a solution, but an ‘opportunity’ to create a more empathetic society ‘one conversation at a time.’

“I’m asking you to perform that small gesture of writing ‘Race Together’ on a cup,” Schultz said in a video to Starbucks baristas. “And if a customer asks you what this is, try and engage in a discussion, that we have problems in this country with regard to race and racial inequality, and we believe we’re better than this, and we believe this country’s better than this. And if this make yous have a conversation with a customer about the need for compassion, the need for empathy, the need for love towards others, if you can do that with one customer one day, then you’re making a significant difference as we go forward.”

If only Michael Brown and Officer Darren Wilson could have met in a Starbucks, imagine how things could have been different? Too bad Starbucks wasn’t around during the Civil Rights era or better yet, during slavery.

Starbucks understands race, just at look what they do with black coffee and white cream. And with Mickey D’s giving out awkward forced hugs, all we need now is for BP to solve global warming.

An essential tool for individuals, organizations, and communities of all sizes to jump-start dialogue on racism and bias and to transform well-intentioned statements on diversity into concrete actions--from a leading Harvard social psychologist.Livingston has made the important and challenging task of addressing systemic racism within an organization approachable and achievable.--Alex Timm, co-founder and CEO, Root Insurance Company
How can I become part of the solution?
In the wake of the social unrest of 2020 and growing calls for racial justice, many business leaders and ordinary citizens are asking that very question. This book provides a compass for all those seeking to begin the work of anti-racism. In The Conversation, Robert Livingston addresses three simple but profound questions: What is racism? Why should everyone be more concerned about it? What can we do to eradicate it?For some, the existence of systemic racism against Black people is hard to accept because it violates the notion that the world is fair and just. But the rigid racial hierarchy created by slavery did not collapse after it was abolished, nor did it end with the civil rights era. Whether it's the composition of a company's leadership team or the composition of one's neighborhood, these racial divides and disparities continue to show up in every facet of society. For Livingston, the difference between a solvable problem and a solved problem is knowledge, investment, and determination. And the goal of making organizations more diverse, equitable, and inclusive is within our capability.Livingston's lifework is showing people how to turn difficult conversations about race into productive instances of real change. For decades he has translated science into practice for numerous organizations, including Airbnb, Deloitte, Microsoft, Under Armour, L'Oreal, and JPMorgan Chase. In The Conversation, Livingston distills this knowledge and experience into an eye-opening immersion in the science of racism and bias. Drawing on examples from pop culture and his own life experience, Livingston, with clarity and wit, explores the root causes of racism, the factors that explain why some people care about it and others do not, and the most promising paths toward profound and sustainable progress, all while inviting readers to challenge their assumptions.Social change requires social exchange. Founded on principles of psychology, sociology, management, and behavioral economics, The Conversation is a road map for uprooting entrenched biases and sharing candid, fact-based perspectives on race that will lead to increased awareness, empathy, and action.

Feathers in the wind appear, in the window of my world,
Feathers of some creature passing in the winding swirl!

Feathers to Lift
Feathers to Fly
Feathers for Warmth
Feathers gone By

What would I be with feathers and wings?
An angel in heaven who trumpets and sings?

Here as I sit by the seashore of life,
The feathers I see are the ones from my wife.

She has come to this life with a zeal for good things,
She has grown out her feathers into beautiful wings!

Feathers in the wind appear drifting by,
The feathers of her love are released to the sky.

What would I do with some feathers in my life,
I'd give them to God to bring back my sweet wife!

I'd give up the heart beating in my fair chest,
I'd give up the honor bound up in my test!

What feathers have you found floating in the wind near,
Do they bring out a smile or a painful warm tear?

Feathers in the wind have appeared in my view,
The feathers that I see are now coming from you!

When I walk along on the ocean shore
my old memories swirling in my mind
Recollect my days when I was with you
We held our hands and walked together
while your head rest on my shoulder
While cool sea breeze touches on us
While the splashing waves wash our feet
While the rushing water roll over the rocks
While the fishermen with sail boat fishing in the sea
While the ships and trawlers sail in the deep sea
While the sea gulls wheeled and shrieked in the sky
While the hawks hover on the wind
While the sun slowly disappear in the sky
On those days everything made me beautiful
because you were near to me
But today I see everything remains same as it is
except your love and soul that's gone with the wind.
Your sudden death brought me shock and tears
Today, you made me alone and I miss you so much
Let me pray for your soul to rest in peace.
