The BMW Group is using the 2017 Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este to unveil the BMW Concept 8-Series, the essence of a modern-day BMW coupe wrapped up in an enthralling design study. The study car will serve as a taster of a forthcoming BMW model - the new BMW 8-Series Coupe, slated for launch in 2018 and part of the biggest model offensive in the company's history. The NUMBER ONE > NEXT strategy sees the BMW Group aiming to significantly increase sales and revenues in the luxury class, and the BMW 8-Series Coupe plays an important role here. "The number 8 has always represented the pinnacle of sports performance and exclusivity at BMW," explains Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG Harald Krüger. "The forthcoming BMW 8-Series Coupe will demonstrate that razor-sharp dynamics and modern luxury can go hand-in-hand. This will be the next model in the expansion of our luxury-car offering and will raise the benchmark for coupes in the segment. Now you can get a piece of James Bond.
Christie's in London will offer 50 items of Bond memorabilia during a charity sale to mark 007's half century.
40 of the lots will be sold online, with the star items going during a live auction on October 5, which is "Global James Bond Day."
Christie's director, Nicolette Tomkinson, says the auction will be full of Bond memories.

"Each and every one of the 23 films is represented in the auction and there really is something for everyone: From the cufflinks to the cars, from Doctor No to Skyfall, from gadgets to Bond style and from the Bond girls to the Bond villains."
For Bond producer Michael Wilson, the auction is like a walk down memory lane.
SOUNDBITE: Michael Wilson, producer EON productions, saying (English):
"Wonderful thing about this is there's an Aston Martin, well everybody loves them, but there is also ... there are some tarot cards or there is a complete poker set and table, so there are things for a lot of different collectors and a lot of different pocket books, but for me they are all equally exciting."
The sale, which will raise funds for a range of charities including UNICEF, is one of a series of events being held around the world to mark the anniversary of one of the world's longest-running and most successful film franchises.

Wilson.
Inspired by the on-screen Q Branch, Hammond also attempts a car gadget of his own with a home-made 'invisibility cloak' and takes a plucky, low budget stab at something even the Bond producers couldn't crack - building a fully working Lotus submarine.

I’m sitting in the passenger seat of an updated 2017 Porsche 911 Turbo S in the pit lane of the reborn old Kyalami race circuit in South Africa. Sitting left seat is Jörg Bergmeister, a Porsche factory race car driver and a man I see with some frequency on Porsche media trips. He’s here in South Africa to lead packs of journalists around the supersmooth new circuit in 911 Turbos and Turbo S’s, and he seems perfectly happy to do so. In fact, he always seems happy, ever ready with a smile, unless you try to bump-pass him on the last lap of a race. Still, in all our meetings I have thus far prevented myself from ever calling him the Burgermeister Meisterburger, at least to his face. But right now he’s chatting with someone outside of the car. I haven’t the slightest clue what the two are talking about but, because they are speaking German, it sounds serious, dire even. After he closes the driver’s-side window, I say, “Did that guy just tell you to scare the hell out of your journalist co-driver?” He smiles, of course, and says, “No, no, we are going to have fun.” And of course we do. Or I do anyway. At least when I’m not trying to figure out how he can carry so much speed through a corner or rotate the car with such accuracy. I’d driven the Turbo S several laps earlier in the day with Bergmeister showing me the way in a GT3 RS. Seemed like I was going pretty fast then; but I wasn’t, at least not compared to what we’re doing now. There’s a long downhill section of the course that bottoms out at the entrance to a gentle left-hand bend. It’s a fast section and when I was driving I would add a little less braking each time at the bottom of the hill. Still, Bergmeister would walk away from me there. So when we arrive at the section with him behind the wheel, I say, “I never could figure out how much braking to use here.”...

50 of James Bond's preferred methods of travel goes on display for the 50th anniversary of "Dr. No".
The 1962 film was the first to feature the Martini and women-loving British spy.
The exhibition features perhaps the most famous Bond car the Aston Martin DB5 in "Goldfinger".
There's also a crocodile-shaped submarine .
Bond girl Jenny Hanley who played the Irish Girl in "On Her Majesty's Secret Service", weighed in on her favourite.

"The one that I want, the one that goes under water and doesn't leak. I mean, that's got to be the one to have."
The white Lotus esprit went from land to underwater in one fell swoop in "The Spy Who Loved Me".
Tires changed to fins and a periscope emerged from the top of the car, helping navigate the submarine.
From sea to air - a mini helicopter called "Little Nellie" from "You Only Live Twice" to a jet-pack which shot Bond in through the air.
Chris Corbould who's in charge of Special Effects for the Bond films say it wasn't enough to make a stunt work, but the Bond franchise is always looking to innovate.

"Working on a Bond films is always challenging. They're working for groundbreaking effects, stunts. They want to do everything for real in the camera and they still maintain that to this day."
And of course it wouldn't be the same without the Bond girls.

Chris Corbould who's in charge of Special Effects for the Bond films say it wasn't enough to make a stunt work, but the Bond franchise is always looking to innovate.
