The classic work on American racism and the struggle for racial justice In Faces at the Bottom of the Well, civil rights activist and legal scholar Derrick Bell uses allegory and historical example to argue that racism is an integral and permanent part of American society. African American struggles for equality are doomed to fail so long as the majority of whites do not see their own well-being threatened by the status quo. Bell calls on African Americans to face up to this unhappy truth and abandon a misplaced faith in inevitable progress. Only then will blacks, and those whites who join with them, be in a position to create viable strategies to alleviate the burdens of racism. "Freed of the stifling rigidity of relying unthinkingly on the slogan 'we shall overcome,'" he writes, "we are impelled both to live each day more fully and to examine critically the actual effectiveness of traditional civil rights remedies."

Desolate dawn

Where is the sharpness of the knife that used to cut us sweet,
Have the stones gone soft or our hearts grown into damp wood
Could we not bring that spark which we used to have in our hug ,
Where gone those passions rich and glowing, could not we renew
Them again? The wind is very harsh now and nights are nasty cruel.

Where is the raw smell of the roses which used to make us mad
Has it gone down floating with the stream of time or blown into
The wind, could not we reverse the flow, those emotions strong
And profound, could not we grow them again? The bed is very
Cold and the nights are too long

Where is the sun where is the breeze once who used to sway
The flowers in my garden and I meet with my moon, where gone
Those days grand and glorious when all bow their head and roll
at the feet of my handsomeness?

if life were a dream, this state I would never choose, I would live
to love, would be young forever and always remain proud and
never allowed nights to break into a desolate dawn and lose.

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER - From the National Book Award-winning author of Stamped from the Beginning comes a "groundbreaking" (Time) approach to understanding and uprooting racism and inequality in our society--and in ourselves."The most courageous book to date on the problem of race in the Western mind."--The New York TimesNAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY The New York Times Book Review - Time - NPR - The Washington Post - Shelf Awareness - Library Journal - Publishers Weekly - Kirkus ReviewsAntiracism is a transformative concept that reorients and reenergizes the conversation about racism--and, even more fundamentally, points us toward liberating new ways of thinking about ourselves and each other. At its core, racism is a powerful system that creates false hierarchies of human value; its warped logic extends beyond race, from the way we regard people of different ethnicities or skin colors to the way we treat people of different sexes, gender identities, and body types. Racism intersects with class and culture and geography and even changes the way we see and value ourselves. In How to Be an Antiracist, Kendi takes readers through a widening circle of antiracist ideas--from the most basic concepts to visionary possibilities--that will help readers see all forms of racism clearly, understand their poisonous consequences, and work to oppose them in our systems and in ourselves.Kendi weaves an electrifying combination of ethics, history, law, and science with his own personal story of awakening to antiracism. This is an essential work for anyone who wants to go beyond the awareness of racism to the next step: contributing to the formation of a just and equitable society.Praise for How to Be an Antiracist"Ibram X. Kendi's new book, How to Be an Antiracist, couldn't come at a better time. . . . Kendi has gifted us with a book that is not only an essential instruction manual but also a memoir of the author's own path from anti-black racism to anti-white racism and, finally, to antiracism. . . . How to Be an Antiracist gives us a clear and compelling way to approach, as Kendi puts it in his introduction, 'the basic struggle we're all in, the struggle to be fully human and to see that others are fully human.' "--NPR "Kendi dissects why in a society where so few people consider themselves to be racist the divisions and inequalities of racism remain so prevalent. How to Be an Antiracist punctures the myths of a post-racial America, examining what racism really is--and what we should do about it."--Time

For racism in this World there should not be a place
For the crimes of one you condemn a whole race
For some to be racist any excuse they will find
Since racism is born of ignorance and ignorance is blind.

On your thinking on race you seem so far from right
The windows of your soul are shaded to light
Like a malignant cancer racism does grow
Of this person's race how many do you know?

To our idea of perfection we may try to cling
But of a perfect race there is no such a thing
Before we learned how to walk we first had to crawl
And the reaper one day will take care of us all.

Everybody is somebody's daughter and somebody's son
And you condemn a whole race for the crimes of one
All sinners are obliged to live with their shame
And for the sins of the father the son you don't blame.

We breathe, we live, we cry, when our heart stops beating we die.
We kill, we hurt, we pollute the air, while others are worried about being fair.
We smoke, we do drugs, we steal, I don’t understand this living but it’s real.
We rap, we sing, we feel for each other, we march against racism with a fellow brother.
We are young, we are old, we are people all the same. There’s nothing else in this world but the devil and ourselves to blame.
So when we live, we got to live right. So when we go up to heaven, we’ll see god and that’s alright.

When I walk along on the ocean shore
my old memories swirling in my mind
Recollect my days when I was with you
We held our hands and walked together
while your head rest on my shoulder
While cool sea breeze touches on us
While the splashing waves wash our feet
While the rushing water roll over the rocks
While the fishermen with sail boat fishing in the sea
While the ships and trawlers sail in the deep sea
While the sea gulls wheeled and shrieked in the sky
While the hawks hover on the wind
While the sun slowly disappear in the sky
On those days everything made me beautiful
because you were near to me
But today I see everything remains same as it is
except your love and soul that's gone with the wind.
Your sudden death brought me shock and tears
Today, you made me alone and I miss you so much
Let me pray for your soul to rest in peace.
